Newly Ranging Chickens

This past weekend, Joshua and I processed the remaining Cornish Cross chickens. We’ve got lots of chicken in the freezer now, ready for future nomming. Of the baby chicks from this year, that leaves three Barred Rocks and one Silkie, all of which we’re keeping as egg layers. With the Cornish Crosses gone, it’s time to start integrating the remaining chicks with our older birds. Today was the first step, which was opening their coop… Keep Reading

Pregnancy: 40 Weeks

I’m 4o weeks today, and I don’t have much to add. Everything’s going great. I’m in no hurry to get unpregnant, and I’m ready whenever it happens. So, no big update for today. Just a picture instead. Joshua joked to me about trying to make the baby come out, and I suggested he try to roll me up like a tube of toothpaste. Instead, he ran to the kitchen and brought back the rolling pin.… Keep Reading

20 Years of Polyamory: Personal Boundaries

(Photo credit: Aunt Owwee) Kitty left this comment on the post The Poly I’m Not (edited for space and clarity): We have roommates now, so Puck and I are sharing a room for the first time ever. We have always slept in the same bed most of the time, but now his stuff is in my room…We have be dating over 6 years, married 1 now, and yet his things in my room feels like… Keep Reading

20 Years of Polyamory: The Analogy

(Photo credit: Pink Sherbet Photography) The Analogy If I had to pick one thing to give as advice for polyamorous people, the choice would be easy. My favorite idea that I’ve ever had about polyamory that I use all the time, I think of as The Analogy. The idea is very simple: If you’re having a polyamory problem, replace the sex or romance with work or a relative (or other non-touchy topic) instead and see… Keep Reading

Quick Hit – Stay Hairy!

I remember going through complicated mental flowcharts in an effort not to shave. Eventually it became “no” more and more often. Ten years ago it turned into shaving once or twice a year. In 2009 I shaved for Burning Man, and I haven’t shaved since. I feel like I won! Still, I think this graphic is cute. I got it here (and I don’t recommend the comments!) Keep Reading

Birth Chat Room

I am 39 weeks pregnant today, which means I will give birth sometime in the next four weeks. I’ve invited 11 people to come to my house when I go into labor. As a way to have more people present during my labor and birthing without actually hosting a house full of more people (and because some of the people I love are internet friends) I’ve set up a birth chat room. This might be… Keep Reading

20 Years of Polyamory: Jealousy

(Photo credit: Gustty) Jealousy One of the biggest benefits I’ve gotten from polyamory is a different way to think about and process jealousy. In comparing myself to other polyamorous people, I think I experience very little jealousy, perhaps because I came to poly so easily and so long ago. Jealousy has come up for me now and then, though, and I’ve developed a philosophy about it that has helped me (and some other people) out… Keep Reading
