Lose Weight Effortlessly By Eating Irresponsible Advice
| November 13, 2012 | Posted by Issa under Radical Self-Acceptance |
This is a pic of a sign I found in the pharmacy at my Kroger. The PHARMACY. You know. The place staffed by MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS who ought to fucking know better. The sign starts out by saying, “No Need to Cheat Lose Weight Almost Effortlessly by Eating These 20 Slimming Foods”. Anyone who talks about losing weight effortlessly is an asshole. Period. What are these magic 20 foods? The ones that I will eat… Keep Reading

I like Cheerios. I like Multi Grain Cheerios. Apparently, Multi Grain Cheerios doesn’t like me. Cheerios thinks that there should be less of me. They dislike me and how much of me there is so much that they’ve made it their slogan. Multi Grain Cheerios: More grains. Less you! That’s their slogan. With the exclamation mark and everything. Here’s a recent ad: My favorite part is where the neighbor is all like, “Ooh, whole grains?!” as… Keep Reading
These are the Fat FAQs
| May 16, 2012 | Posted by Issa under Radical Self-Acceptance |
I just couldn’t resist that title. Say “Fat FAQs” fast a couple of times! Thanks to those of you who replied in the “rude questions” thread. I’ve taken ideas from that thread, cleaned up some of the concepts from the rude comments the other night, and pulled ideas from other conversations I’ve had and questions I’ve been asked privately. I’ve strung them all together into a single chain of questions and given you a wealth… Keep Reading
Why I Call It Fat-Hate Plus An Invite to Ask Rude Questions
| May 9, 2012 | Posted by Issa under Radical Self-Acceptance |
When I talk about various topics related to fat acceptance, I often use the phrase “fat-hate” to refer to the harmful attitudes that people have. Some people might think that’s a bit hyperbolic when it seems like the topic on the table is just dieting, weight loss, nutrition, health, etc. It seems clear to me, though, that the public opinion on those topics is extremely misguided, and that the reason we have so much trouble… Keep Reading
Can You Change Your Diet Without Dieting?
| May 1, 2012 | Posted by Issa under Radical Self-Acceptance |
Yesterday my friend and commenter, Wendi, left a comment on the post Dieting Makes You Fatter that’s brings up a good question and raises some other issues, so I want to give it my full attention here. Part of her comment is the basic question: Is there any difference in any of the studies or reports for people who start a new “diet” just to be generally healthier? … I’m wondering that since the goal of… Keep Reading
Dieting Makes You Fatter
| April 30, 2012 | Posted by Issa under Radical Self-Acceptance |
In previous posts I’ve covered lots of evidence that there’s not much you can do to change your weight. In the midst of all that, it turns out that there is one reliable way to make yourself fatter. It’s called “dieting”. I wrote before about Traci Mann and the analysis of 31 long-term dieting studies. Mann and the other researchers found that the majority of dieters regained their lost pounds and then some. She said: We concluded… Keep Reading
How To Be Condescending About Weight-Loss
| January 27, 2011 | Posted by Issa under Radical Self-Acceptance |
(Image courtesy Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity. All images that appear on posts about weight at LoveLiveGrow will be of fat people with heads.) I read a lot of stuff on the internet. I’ve got my search patterns pretty well dialed in so that most of what I read is stuff I want to read. I’m either probably going to like it, or I’m probably going to enjoy not liking it. Every now and then,… Keep Reading
Nutrition Advice Gone Awry
| July 28, 2010 | Posted by Issa under Counter/Culture |
It can be hard to follow along with all the nutrition advice out there. Eggs good or bad? How many glasses of wine? This fish or that fish? And that’s not even counting the moral choices of free-range, free trade, etc. Keep Reading
